For those who have not yet ventured into similar territory, Canyoning consists of descending, with the help of ropes, into the gorges carved out of rock by the river. The river that we follow takes us through creeks, rocky jumps and little lakes. The Alcantara river, has over the years carved into the lava rock of Etna, creating a stunning and unique landscape.
The tour begins with the kitting-out of the participants, who will be provided with wetsuits, harnesses and helmets. Each participant must bring the following equipment: trainers or hiking boots (that will get wet), swimming costume, towel, socks and a change of shoes. After dressing there will be a quick briefing in which you will be explained the techniques for descending with the ropes, how to proceed safely, followed by a practical test for all participants.
You will start the real tour entering the creek. You will be led for the entire trip by a licensed guide who is an expert of the river.
Journey time on foot: approximately 3 hours.
Pick-up available from Giardini Naxos and Taormina, select at the time of booking as an Extra.
