Starting from Gaggi, you will head towards the Alcantara Valley, following the river on mainly unsurfaced roads. You will be caught up in an exciting bike ride, along a path of great natural beauty and culture. During the tour you will have the chance to admire the Alcantara's plunge pools, little lakes created by the erosion of the river into the lava stone, making for a seriously refreshing dip in the summer months. The water of the Alcantara river is indeed ice cold, and for this reason these lakes offer a welcome respite from the summer heat. You will also visit the Castle of Calatabiano, stood on a high hill that dominates the eastern part of the valley, the gorges, and nearby the Byzantine Cuba of Castiglione di Sicilia.
Along the cycle route you will have as a background beautiful hazelnut trees and ancient vineyards, that will undoubtedly make the pedalling much more bearable. Upon request it will be possible to go to a winetasting in one of the numerous vineyards in the foothills of Etna.
